Apple plans to release a new version of its AirTag tracking device in the first half of 2025. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this will be the first major update since the original AirTag was launched in 2021.

What We Know

The new AirTag is expected to feature a more advanced chip, likely utilizing second-generation ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, similar to that found in the iPhone 15. This upgrade aims to significantly enhance the device's tracking accuracy.

The original AirTag is equipped with the U1 chip, which combines UWB and Bluetooth technology to integrate seamlessly with Apple's Find My network. This compact device has a stainless steel housing with an IP67 rating, providing protection against moisture and dust.

Users can easily locate their AirTag thanks to the built-in speaker, which plays audio through the Find My app. The device also includes a loss mode that alerts users when it is out of range.

It is currently unclear whether the design of the new AirTag will be altered. However, there are rumors of its potential integration with the Apple Vision Pro headset, though details remain under wraps for now.
