The concept of the "smart home" is becoming increasingly significant each year. While Apple is a key player in developing innovative devices, competitors like Google and Amazon currently hold greater market popularity.

To enhance its position in this sector, Apple has launched a comprehensive strategy aimed at taking the lead. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman shared key insights about this initiative.

What We Know

Apple has formed a new Home Ecosystem team and is prioritizing its Smart Home program for the coming years.

According to Bloomberg, the company plans to shift away from a closed ecosystem, instead focusing on maximizing compatibility with devices from other manufacturers. To support this, a new Matter protocol is being developed to enable control over various gadgets.

Another cornerstone of Apple’s strategy is the integration of AI into its smart home system. The company will utilize its Apple Intelligence platform to manage home processes, including the ability to identify who is speaking or interacting with the screen. A crucial aspect of this AI implementation is the App Intents system, which enhances Siri’s ability to control app functions.

Additionally, Apple is set to create a dedicated homeOS operating system based on tvOS, the platform used in Apple TV. This new OS will be integrated into smart displays, improving overall control over home infrastructure, media management, and other functionalities.
