In 2021, the Danish studio IO Interactive, known for the iconic Hitman series, announced an action game centered on James Bond. The upcoming spy game, Project 007, will be distinctly different from the Hitman franchise, and new details about this ambitious title have emerged.

While specific information about the game remains scarce, the developers are so confident in its potential that they are already planning a sequel.

Key Details

Hakan Abrak, the head of IO Interactive, stated in an interview with IGN that the game will feature a completely original story about James Bond, separate from the narratives in the novels and films.

He emphasized that the studio's experience from developing multiple Hitman titles aids in the creation of Project 007, allowing the team to envision a trilogy.

Abrak noted that while "James Bond" is not the intellectual property of IO Interactive and the studio cannot ensure all its ideas will come to fruition, he hopes the trilogy will resonate with a younger audience and that young gamers will grow alongside new releases featuring the legendary secret agent.

"I don’t want to reveal too much, but I hope we create something that will define James Bond in gaming for years to come. This isn’t just a single game; we’re building a universe that gamers will enjoy for years and can evolve with, much like the Bond films," he stated.

The developer aspires for the new game to achieve similar success as GoldenEye 007 (1997).

Currently, there is no official release date for Project 007, but it is unlikely to debut in 2025.
